Finding a handyman in Sunny Beach, Nessebar and Sveti Vlas

Ask on an expat forum who fixes things in Sunny Beach and you get the same answer every time: "I know a guy, send me a message." That works until the guy is on holiday, has stopped answering, or does not do the thing you need. This guide is for owners and long-term renters who want a handyman in Sunny Beach, Nessebar or Sveti Vlas without depending on one phone number — including those who are not in Bulgaria when the job needs doing.
What a handyman does here
On the coast "handyman" is the person you call for the list of small jobs that no single trade wants: hanging shelves, mirrors and a TV on the wall; fitting curtain rails and blinds; adjusting doors and windows that have dropped over winter; replacing locks and handles; renewing the silicone in a bathroom; small repairs to furniture; and getting a flat ready for tenants or guests. In Bulgarian the same person is called a "майстор на час" (handyman by the hour) or "майстор за всичко" (handyman for everything) — if you search in Bulgarian, both bring up the same trade.
What a handyman is not: an electrician for a fuse box that keeps tripping, or a plumber for a leak inside the wall. Those are separate pages on Helply for a reason — an electrician in Sunny Beach and a plumber in Sunny Beach — so the request says from the start which trade you need. If you are not sure which you need, our piece on what to check before calling an electrician and the one on a leak in the flat help you decide.
When they are busy — and when they are not
The three resorts run on one calendar. From October to April most flats stand empty and closed, and that is when the damage happens: silicone goes mouldy, handles seize, doors drop, sockets corrode. In April and May everyone wants it fixed at once, because the first guests arrive in June. Those two months are the busiest of the year for handymen in Sunny Beach and Sveti Vlas, and the weeks when you queue with the whole resort. In July and August the complexes often limit noisy work and deliveries, so providers take urgent jobs — a door, a lock, an appliance — and leave bigger works for the autumn.
The practical conclusion: if you can, book the list of winter repairs for March or early April, not for the week before your first booking.
The three towns are not the same job
Sunny Beach is apartment complexes, north and south of the central alley. The jobs are repetitive — the same handles, curtains and silicone in hundreds of similar flats — and a handyman can do several flats in a day. Keys are usually handed over through the complex reception.
Nessebar has two halves. In the new town and the complexes towards Ravda the work is like Sunny Beach. The Old Town on the peninsula is an architectural reserve: a van cannot drive in, materials are carried by hand over the cobbles, and anything that touches a facade, roof, window or door of an old house needs approval first. Say which half your property is in, and give the exact address.
Sveti Vlas is flats by Dinevi Marina and villas up the hillside. The streets up the hill are steep and narrow, and many entrances have no lift, so a handyman will ask about access and parking before quoting. Many of the providers who work here come over from Nessebar and Sunny Beach, a few minutes away.
How to book from abroad
Helply is a marketplace: you describe the job once, providers in that town send quotes, and you choose one. A few things that matter when you are not in the country:
- You need a phone number, not a Bulgarian one. A request is confirmed with a code so the provider can reach you; enter your number with the country code, and if the SMS does not arrive, the same code can be sent to your email. You do not have to create a profile first.
- Write the list, not "a few things". "Two shelves on a concrete wall, bathroom silicone, balcony door handle, one curtain rail" lets a handyman estimate the time and give one price for the visit. Say whether the walls are concrete — they need a different drill and fixings — and whether the materials are yours or the handyman should bring them.
- Keys. Owners who live abroad hand keys over through the reception or a property manager, and providers send photos before and after. Put in the request who holds the keys and when the flat is free.
- The price is the provider's, not ours. There is no price list and no commission. Some providers state on their profile the figure they start from — where they do, the landing for each town shows the lowest of those — and the actual price comes in the quote once they have read your description. Some charge by the hour, some for the whole list; ask which, and what the price includes.
- You pay the provider, after the work. Cash or bank transfer, as you agree between you. The platform never asks for money up front.
The first quotes usually arrive within 5–15 minutes of posting. Compare the rating, the number of completed jobs and the written reviews, not just the price — two quotes ten euros apart usually differ in exactly what is included.
Common questions
Can a handyman in Sunny Beach come when I am not there? Yes, that is how most owners who live abroad do it. Keys go through the reception or a property manager, the handyman sends photos before and after, and you pay once the work is confirmed.
Do handymen work in Sunny Beach in winter? Yes — fewer of them, but repairs and maintenance go on, and winter is the best time for anything bigger than a shelf. Book early for April and May, when everyone is getting ready for the season.
What decides the price of a handyman in Sunny Beach? It depends on the list and on the provider: some charge by the hour, some for the whole visit. Some providers state a starting price on their profile; the exact figure comes in the quote. Posting a request is free and there is no commission.
Does the handyman bring tools? Yes, providers come with their own tools. Materials and fixings — shelves, rails, handles, dowels — you either buy yourself or ask the handyman to supply; say which in the request.
What if I need an electrician or a plumber rather than a handyman? Post it on the page for that trade, so the request says from the start what kind of work it is. A fuse box or a leak inside a wall is their job, not a handyman's.
Where to post the request
If the flat has stood closed since October, read opening and closing a holiday flat for the season first — the handyman's list and the cleaning are usually booked together. Owners who leave for the winter may also want someone to look after the flat between visits. Everything else about how the marketplace works, including what happens if a job goes wrong, is in the FAQ.
