How much an electrician costs: prices and what drives them

Insulated tools and a new light fixture prepared for an electrician

"How much does an electrician cost" has no single answer. Swapping a socket and fitting a new consumer unit with an RCD are jobs for the same person, yet the bills differ tenfold or more. So there is no made-up price list here: below are the starting prices tradespeople publish on their own Helply profiles, and everything that pushes the final sum up or down.

The short answer

Every provider states on their profile what a visit starts from. As of October 2026:

MeasureValue
Typical starting price among "Repairs & construction" tradespeople€30
Middle half of thembetween €20 and €50
Tradespeople with a published price79
Electricians who marked this specialization8 with a price, €10 to €50, typically €18

That is the threshold a visit starts from, not the price of a finished job. The figure for your job arrives in the offer once you describe it, and you see it before you agree.

Prices by city

Starting prices of "Repairs & construction" tradespeople by city, again from their own profiles. Few electricians have marked their specialization so far, so the table covers the whole category:

CityTypical starting priceMiddle half
Burgas€30€20 – €50
Varna€20€16 – €50
Sunny Beach€30€20 – €50
Nessebar€30€20 – €50
Sveti Vlas€30€20 – €50

In the resorts the same tradesperson often covers Sunny Beach, Nessebar and Sveti Vlas, which is why the prices match. In July and August free slots go faster and small jobs are harder to fit in.

What the price depends on

Installation or a fault. "Fit two light fixtures" is easy to price. "The lights keep cutting out" means finding the cause first, and diagnosis is sometimes charged separately.

Number of points. A socket, a switch, a light, a point for a water heater or an air conditioner: each one is a separate task. Several points in one visit cost less than the same points over three visits.

The consumer unit and protection. Replacing a breaker is quick. A new consumer unit, an RCD or splitting circuits is a bigger job, with materials and testing afterwards.

Surface or concealed wiring. Cable in surface trunking goes in fast. New cable inside the wall means chasing the wall and then filling it, sometimes a painter as well.

The state of the wiring. Older blocks often have aluminium wiring. There, replacing one socket can show that the whole circuit needs replacing. An honest electrician says so before starting, not halfway through.

Materials. If the sockets, lights and cable are yours, you pay for labour. If the electrician supplies them, ask for their cost to be listed separately in the offer so you compare like with like.

Urgency and time of day. Evenings, weekends and public holidays almost always cost more than a planned visit.

When not to wait

A burning smell, sparks, a hot or blackened socket, buzzing from the consumer unit: switch off that circuit's breaker or the main switch and post a request marked "urgent". If a breaker simply keeps tripping, first see what you can check yourself: often the cause is one appliance, not the wiring.

How to compare two offers

  • What the price includes: labour only, or labour and materials.
  • The guarantee: on the work and on the parts, and for how long.
  • Testing afterwards: whether the electrician tests the protection and every point before leaving.
  • Cleaning up: who removes the dust and debris after chasing walls.
  • Qualification: for a new consumer unit or rewiring, ask whether the electrician is qualified for that kind of work.
  • Rating and reviews on the profile.

What to prepare

  • A photo of the consumer unit and of the problem spot.
  • A list of every point: how many sockets, switches and lights, in which rooms.
  • A decision on who buys the materials, and the models if they are yours.
  • Clear access to the consumer unit and to the walls being worked on.

Common questions

Is the inspection charged separately? Many electricians include the inspection in the price of the work, but when tracing a fault, diagnosis is sometimes charged on its own. Ask at the start.

How much does replacing one socket cost? It is one of the shortest jobs. Ask whether the visit's starting price covers it, and if you have several, put them in one request.

Can an electrician come today? Often, yes. Mark the request as urgent and give a convenient time. The first offers usually arrive within 5–15 minutes.

Who buys the materials? Whatever you agree. If you buy them yourself, ask the electrician for the exact type, cable size and quantity, so there is no second visit.

Does Helply have a fixed tariff? No. Helply is a marketplace, not a company with a price list: tradespeople set their own prices and send you an offer. You compare and choose, with no prepayment and no commission.

How to get a price for your job

Describe the job and pick the city; the first offers usually arrive within 5–15 minutes:

If there are small repairs besides the electrics, see what a handyman costs.
