How much a handyman costs: prices and how you pay

Painting and furniture assembly tools in an apartment

You call a handyman for things that look small one by one: a shelf, a creaking door, darkened silicone, a curtain rail. So "how much does it cost" usually means "what will the whole visit come to". Below are the starting prices handymen publish on their own Helply profiles, the two ways the bill is worked out, and how to pay less for the same work.

The short answer

Every provider states on their profile what a visit starts from. As of October 2026:

MeasureValue
Typical starting price among "Repairs & construction" tradespeople€30
Middle half of thembetween €20 and €50
Tradespeople with a published price79
Handymen who marked "small repairs" as a specialization7 with a price, €10 to €50, typically €30

That is the threshold for a visit, not the price of the finished work. The figure for your list arrives in the offer, and you see it before you agree.

Prices by city

Starting prices of "Repairs & construction" tradespeople, from their own profiles. Few have marked "small repairs" as a specialization so far, so the table covers the whole category:

CityTypical starting priceMiddle half
Burgas€30€20 – €50
Varna€20€16 – €50
Sunny Beach€30€20 – €50
Nessebar€30€20 – €50
Sveti Vlas€30€20 – €50

By the hour or for the whole list

Handymen charge in one of two ways, sometimes a mix:

By the hour. Handy when there are many tasks that are hard to price in advance. Preparation pays off most here: every minute the handyman waits, hunts for a wall plug or moves furniture goes on your bill.

For the whole list. You describe the tasks, the handyman names one price. It is more predictable but needs a precise description: "small repairs" cannot be priced, "two shelves on a concrete wall, a 2-metre curtain rail, adjust the front door" can.

Either way, every visit has a fixed part: travel, parking, unloading tools. You pay it once, however many tasks there are.

How to pay less for the same work

Bundle the tasks into one visit. Three separate visits for a shelf, a door and some silicone cost more than one combined visit. How to build the list is covered in detail in the handyman checklist.

Buy the materials in advance, or agree who buys them. A missing wall plug or the wrong size means a second visit.

Say what the walls are made of. Concrete needs a hammer drill, plasterboard needs special anchors. A handyman who knows in advance brings the right tools.

Clear the access. Emptied shelves, furniture moved aside and a clean place to work shorten the visit.

When the job is not for a handyman

If the work goes into the wall or the building's systems, call a specialist. A good handyman will tell you so:

How to compare two offers

  • What the price covers: the whole list or only part of it.
  • Materials: whether they are included, and which.
  • How extra time is charged if a task turns out harder than expected.
  • Cleaning up after the work.
  • Rating and reviews on the profile: how many jobs the handyman has completed.

Common questions

Is there a minimum charge per visit? Yes, most handymen have a threshold: the starting price on their profile. That is why one small task on its own costs more than the same task within a list.

Can I add tasks on the spot? You can, if time allows. Agree the price for them before the handyman starts, not afterwards.

Who buys the materials? Whatever you agree. If you buy them yourself, ask the handyman exactly what to get: size, type, quantity.

Do handymen work at weekends? Many do. Give a convenient day and time in the request.

Does Helply have a fixed tariff? No. Handymen set their own prices and send you an offer. You compare and choose, with no prepayment and no commission.
